[ here's xie lian after a great fun death announcement!
by which i mean, it's a little later in the evening, and xie lian is at his board of notes from the town hall meeting earlier in the day. he looks deeply troubled, brow furrowed - though, when someone walks up, he glances back, and greets him politely, bowing his head a little in greeting.
san lang is in qilin form today, instead of ferret - he's pacing back and forth at xie lian's feet. ]
[ the board is good! the conspiracy board. sort of. it's got a new piece of paper added - characters written in delicate mandarin characters, along with marius's name. ]
...I tried to reach out to Baraqiel, but they have not answered me, which is quite unusual.
Somehow, it isn't surprising. One of our masked benefactors made it apparent that "something" would occur shortly this week, and...I fear that this may be that very "something".
[Looking over the characters.]
Our great "conflict" has maybe started down its terrible road.
I am not trained in any priesthood, necessarily, but I have spent some time around pavilions and temples. I thought it would be nice, to do rites for Marius, to help his soul pass on peacefully.
[ soft hearted as ever - xie lian is compassionate and cares for others, even those he barely knew. it reads on his face even here, looking at the talisman. ]

[And he's glancing over the other's shoulder at said board, puffing away on his pipe.]

...mm. [ xie lian's daemon's ears fall back against his head, tight. ] A competition of survival, do you think?

...Perhaps. Regardless, its not one that's out in the open. Whatever happened last night...it happened on purpose, to keep most of us unaware.

xie lian's qilin presses closer to him, ears flat, displeased. ]
I thought so, as well. What a foul thing to do - a sleep spell, a barrier, locked doors, all to enable someone's death.

[He's looking at the list of characters, glancing over at the young man.]
Did you make this?

[They haven't found him, yet, true, but...]
You do believe he's no longer with us, do you.

xie lian stays quiet for a moment longer. ]
It is more precautionary than anything - something that will simply protect him, should he still be alive, in theory.
[ ... ] I want to think that he is simply wandering, and that he will return soon.
[ an optimist, but one who has been struck with reality far too many times. ]

xie lian: DUDE IS DEAD]
...It is a hope that I will hold onto to. I'm sure, that if that is the case, he would appreciate such kindness. I know I would.
