Don't understand what that girl wanted. It's clear she felt like we all saw her as helpless, but I don't think she understood that the majority of the people here just trusted her to an almost irrational degree.
I suspected, just a bit at the time, but it was never a question if I'd bring it up and put her at risk of execution. I'm just not that noble. And after that, well, me and Alis figured out she was at least an accomplice very quickly. She was still so fixated on this idea that nobody even saw what she was capable of, though...
[He shakes his head. He's pouring himself more whiskey.]
Even though we now know it was her, I still don't see anything definitive pointing to her that couldn't also point right at Yukio Okumura or Reze. No wonder she was so frustrated during our little meetings, I suppose.
...There's a story about that girl I could tell you. There was a terrible incident where a girl we knew went missing in the night, and we found her in a pawnshop across the way from the flat. I was shot by burglars who happened to be in the place, and as our friend went to grab the police to help me, I told Miss Susato to check the backroom, where the girl, Gina, may be located. The door there was locked. Miss Susato happened to have grabbed an invention of my daughter that allowed one to create openings in doors, so...she used that, to look inside, seeing the poor pawnshop owner dead. Technically, it was wrong. To make such a drastic adjustment to the crime scene was a crime in and of itself.

She regretted it, of course. But she kept the secret with her, and later, when she visited me in the hospital, she bade me keep it secret as well. That invention needed to be used at a decisive moment in the trial that came afterwards, but the fact of the matter stands that...if she had let that secret out before the whole thing, it could have compromised the whole trial.
[He's silent for a moment.]
Miss Susato is a determined young woman who can keep secrets where it counts. But yes, perhaps she didn't realize how many had put their hand on her shoulder, seeing her as a beacon of good in these cruel times. Anyone is capable of cruelty. I do believe, however, that whatever she undertook, even something as vile as murder, she did it on her own terms, not anyone else's. Why, she even she drugged Mr. Rochalizo and carefully arranged things on her very own murder!
[A short, sharp little noise, like a laugh.]
That's the type of young lady she was. She wanted her own path. She made sure she got it.

But that sounds like her. I, for one, never actually thought she was incapable of murder. Really surprised her chosen target was Rex but I suppose after further consideration it makes sense she didn't go out of her way to choose to specifically go after someone like me, who maybe deserves it by the standards of your law.
