[ xie lian is sitting on the stage today! legs crossed, back straight, eyes closed - it looks like he might be meditating. however, when someone approaches, he opens an eye, and seeing that's sholmes, he offers him a small smile and bows his head in return to the respectful greeting. ]
I feel as though I should be saying that to you, but - that is very kind, Mr. Sholmes. Your deduction was quite impressive.
[ xie lian gets a little more somber with that, looking down into his lap. ]
I know... it was the person who committed the crime, or someone innocent. No in between. But... while Bertolt did commit the action, and it was by some measure his own - he was tricked and coerced into doing so, as far as what he told me, by some sort of vile creature.
Even that it is a deal was an indicator enough. This creature... I am going to ask the Watchers if they are familiar with it - I thought it might be some sort of messenger of their 'higher power', the one that limits them, and the one that asked for this.
Since... the Watchers all made some sort of voluntary deal to be here, as Bertolt made a deal that was "voluntary", [ you can feel the quotes in the way xie lian says that; san lang chuffs, an angry little snort. ] it does make sense.
Did you hear what was discussed during today's trial? That abilities could be bartered for. And it seems that Mr. Hoover got himself into a devilish deal that ended up poorly for him. Asking for...murder, as a price.
[A shake of the head.]
I do worry that others will take similar deals, now that we know what its capable of.
[ san lang, who has been mostly docile up until now, starts to prickle a little - his ears lay back, and he looks visibly agitated. ]
What a foul, vile creature - to prey upon human's desires in order to cause death and destruction. And not only that, but to set them in such a deal that becomes impossible for them to 'achieve'. It makes me sick.
[ it's just - it's familiar, in the most horrifying ways. it incenses xie lian, who is still young, and his anger still burns hot in his chest for the things that were done to his home. ]
I asked Bertolt if he felt as if he could get out of the deal - if he could say no when it was offered. He said no. So not only did he agree to it, but he was manipulated into doing so - even if he hadn't wanted to agree, there would have been no backing out.
...You know, in my world, a creature like that isn't an angel. A being who descends to give temptations and impossible bargains to mankind to make them commit evil is none other than the devil.
[He shakes his head, grimacing. Irene's ears, in mimicry, are tilted backwards as well.]
And now we are in dark times where we are now susceptible to this threat. I do wonder if we can find out how and where and when these deals can be made...and how to stop them.
xie lian tucks his hands into his sleeves, some of the righteous, justice related anger on his face shifting a bit into thoughtful frustration. ]
Bertolt said he was approached on the second day that we were in this city. [ so... there's that. ] But, I don't know how to stop it without my spiritual energy. Or, if we even can.
[ which is even worse!!!!! ] But... in my world, it is the same - a ghost would do such things. A powerful one, more so than Qi Rong, and far more clever.

[shut up]
But I do thank you for your kind words, regardless.

I did. Is it always like that when you deduce things? [ sir your dance ]
no subject
Almost always, my dear fellow! When I deduce, I cannot help but dance! It's built into the very thing!
no subject
[ you know
sure why not. he's not sure whether to laugh or cry. ]
Well - it was most helpful, either way. You and Mr. Van Zieks are both quite... [ ace attorney ] ....colorful about these sorts of things, I think.

[sholmes,]
But the matter was solved. To me, that is a splendid success, even though the consequences are...not quite that.

It was quite hard to watch, Mr. Sholmes.

Yes, I rather agree with that. A "vile creature"....I would assume its our so-called angels who are directing things behind the scenes.
