Nov. 10th, 2021 08:39 am My dear Miss Susato,
I am writing to you today in the hopes that you are well. Though I am not aware of whatever you are potentially experiencing in the land of the dead, I know that you are a strong, fierce, determined young woman, and you can make the best of any circumstance. That's just how you are.
I am sending this letter with some gifts. The first - The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. A strange twist on my name, isn't it? But the stories are all the same, save for the names of characters and its author, with a name that sounds so dreary compared with my dear Iris that I wonder if it would not benefit from the change to its proper author (in my mind!). But I know you are fond of the stories, and it is my gift to you, to keep you company. The second - some chocolates. I talked with Kaeya the other day, and he was lamenting the fact that you had wanted to try some. What was it, again? "A chocolate decadence". Perhaps this may not be the right decadence you are looking for, but I hope it gives you some mote of happiness. We all need that, in these dark days.
Lastly, some food for you and your friends. They call it "fast food" - and my, how fast it is! Twenty of these hamburgers in only an instant! Clearly, the ways of the modern world astound and confuse, and I must take advantage of it. So please, share these with the rest, and gain your energy for what is to come. I have been told that we are due to end this whole matter within a week or so, and I would hope that you all are prepared.
Regarding everything else...
I told you before that I believed in you. And you were tasking me to attempt to find the dastardly person who was behind that night with you and Rex. I didn't. I utterly failed at that. What a shame it must have been, to see a great detective falter so! And to imagine the feelings you had, when I put logic ahead, deduced incorrectly, must have been horrible, indeed. And indeed...I failed you, specifically. I put emotions ahead in the form of facts. I believed so earnestly in the person you are.
And I still do, you know.
I may not know the whole truth. I may not know what exactly happened that night. I may not know your plans. I may not know what sorts of deals you had with others, what schemes you had, what restless work you did on your own. But that doesn't matter, ultimately. You are Miss Susato Mikotoba, a brilliant young woman I am happy to call part of my family. You are someone I shall always fight for. I wish I could have been someone you could have confided in during your time on this side. You were never a burden to me in any regard. I wonder if perhaps this was another failure of mine, to not be your bedrock, your stone to lean on when you needed. But it doesn't change my feelings in the slightest.
I read your letter, and I take it into consideration, but here is my promise. I shall see to it that you shall see Mr. Naruhodo again, and Iris again, and your father again. We shall bring our family together, and shan't leave you behind.
The world is better with you in it, my dear.
Most Respectfully,
Your Friend, Herlock Sholmes
