WEEK ZERO day four

[Sometime later, Rin may be walking the streets when he might see a familiar figure, leaning against a wall. Sholmes is puffing away, lifting his head when he sees the other approach.]

So. You want a rematch, hm?

[He says it lightly. Clearly he's not serious.]

[Luckily this is after like four people talked to him so he's mostly moved on from whatever problems he had.]

Nah, it wouldn't be a fair fight. I'd wipe the floor with you.

Week 0, Saturday

[After the trial, Rin can be found stomping around the city and talking to himself. Most of his mutterings are about 'stupid Qi Rong' and 'we could have understood him', which betray his line of thinking currently.

He'll stop muttering when he sees Sholmes though, unless Sholmes is sneaking up on him on purpose, in which case he'll keep ranting until he's spooked.]

[He's not actually popping up out of the blue! He's just sitting against the tower, looking up at the night sky.]

[When he sees Rin, he tilts his head, considering, and waves him over. Come! Sit!]

Week 1, Monday

[If Sholmes goes into the castle kitchen on Monday, he will see Rin holding a twisted-up piece of paper. He's staring at it intently, like something is supposed to be happening, but for the longest time it doesn't.

But then it starts to smoke a little, and Rin is suddenly grinning.]

Guess it's coming back slowly, then.

[And he's bending down to take a look.]

Week 2, Monday

Now that there is actual food to be found, Rin has been cooking! And he is running up to Sholmes while carrying what appears to be rice covered in beans.]

Week 2, Tuesday

When Rin grabs for Sholmes's hand, at that moment he also steps on a glass shard, and Sholmes will get to see a very touching memory of a time long past. The words might be static at parts, but the actions are enough to show what's going on at least. Even if that man doesn't look like Rin, Rin still looks up to him.]

[He's holding the other's hand for a moment, just. Letting the memory wash over him, before he closes his eyes.]

week 3 day 2

[Hey, Rin! Someone is pointing out something over your shoulder, at the markets. It's a cool necklace.]

[Rin is probably not interested in that it's just a random cool necklace.]

[He's knocking on the door of House 1, carrying...a tin container? Knock knock knock.]

Hello? My dear fellow...Mr. Rin. Are you there?

[Rin is indeed inside! He's still bundled up in his hoodie + blanket cloak combo, but he'll let Sholmes in.]

Hey.

[Even with rest, he still sounds drained. And not very talkative. But the way Rinkou waddles over to Sholmes' daemon and whines a bit is a good sign that yes, Rin wants company.]

week 3 day 5

[Of course he's going to go see him, after all of that.]

[When he arrives, he just stares, and just. Sighs, coming closer.]

I'm sorry. [...] We weren't able to narrow down the other case as much as we'd like.

[Rin is sitting on the floor of the cell, near the window. He had been looking out at the moon, but he'll give Sholmes his attention when he comes in.]

It's alright. You tried, yeah? It's not like everyone sat around doing nothing.

Week 3, Sunday

[In the time it takes for Sholmes to get Rin to House 1, Rin's cries have quieted from screaming to occasional sobs. He's still very unstable right now though, and he looks ready to collapse at any moment. Clinging to Sholmes is just about all that keeps him upright right now.

That said, being around Sholmes does seem to offer some level of comfort, given how hie crying has quieted down. Maybe he'll be able to talk soon.]

[He won't say anything at the moment. Just walk in tandem with him, his only hand stable around the other.]

[Honestly, he still doesn't know what to say. Whatever just happened almost seems like a nightmare they just woke up from.]

[Eventually, he can see the house coming up. Quietly, he speaks:]

...We're almost there. Rin.

week 4 day 1

[He is. Actually going to look for Rin following the gossip event, worried after seeing the mood he was in. Irene is flying ahead as a crow, as he calls out:]

Rin! Rin...! Are you around-!

[Rin is around! He's actually staring up at the ramparts, considering if he wants to climb them or not. But when Sholmes calls out to him he'll look over and give a little wave.]

Hey.

[None of his usual enthusiasm, but it's a friendly hello.]

week 4 day 5

[Sometime after the CYOA group has returned, Rin can probably find Sholmes, puffing away at his pipe.]

[He seems distant, rattled, his daemon in crow form just burying her face in her wings. When he sees Rin, he blinks, giving him a smile that doesn't reach his eyes.]

Rin...are you well?

[Rin is carrying around a wolverine daemon, who has decided that today is done and she does not want to move. So he has to carry her to get anywhere.]

I'd be better if I didn't have to carry this fatass around.

[Rin don't call your daemon a fatass!!! Rinkou just lets out a grumble at the insult.]

Week 4, post-trial

[He is definitely going looking for Sholmes. He lost a lot of people this week, didn't he? Time to check in on the good detective and see how he's doing.

...he has chocolate cookies with him too, yes.]

[He's just at the tavern. Not really eating or drinking. Just puffing away, staring at...nothing in particular. Just staring.]

[But Rin approaching makes him blink, like out of a gaze, and turn.]

...What are those?

[I was going to have Rin be a doofus about the giant ice pit he made in the sculpture garden, but then I remembered that Sholmes is his dad now and dad got fucked up on a CYOA. So instead he's carrying a blanket in his arms while looking for Sholmes, and will eventually find him among the statues Rin didn't melt on Wednesday.]

Dude, it's freezing out here. Shouldn't you be inside?

Ah, was it?

[He's just standing here. Just standing here!]

I suppose I didn't notice. I just wanted to get a breath of fresh air.

week 5 post trial

[Hey there, Rin.]

[Someone is inside, at least! He's in the dining hall.]

[He's staring blankly at the wall.]

[Everything just happens, huh.]

[Everything sure does happen yeah.

Is he sitting or is he standing? Regardless Rin is going to end up at his side, but it matters for what he's going to do next.]

week 6 day 4

[Wherever he is sitting near the church, Sholmes joins him, moving to sit next to him.]

[Irene joins him at his side in hare form, twitching her nose - he just reaches over his hand for Rin to hold, if he wants.]

A little. It doesn't feel like my insides are dying anymore at least.

[Moderate heals help! But he's not going to ask for anything further, not until the other group (?) shows up.]

Week 6, before the trial

[In the rush before the trial, Rin will track down Sholmes and show him something! It's a letter!]

[Well. 2 out of 3 isn't so bad. But Rin still doesn't feel like he won at anything when he goes looking for Sholmes.

He did remember the cookies though, so that's something. And he has a boba tea.]

[He nods when he sees the other, with a light smile.]

[Sholmes can be found sitting on what seems to be a broken down statue near the base of the tree. He's chewing on a snack bar - Irene in beagle form is resting next to him.]

[He'll wave down at Rin.]

Ah! My dear boy! Decided to have a closer look, yes?

[Oh, hello Sholmes! Rinkou is waddling right over to go sniff at Irene and possibly curl up too, because she is lazy and would love to indulge in naps. Rin will take the opportunity to stand nearby too.]

I was trying to see if it looks anything like the cutting we found before. Maybe they're the same tree, yeah?

week 7 day 5

[They're in the land of the dead, alright! Though...he's hounding down Rin after that whole group comes up, worried.]

My dear boy...are you alright?

[Sholmes is his dad now so he won't get a lie.]

I got possessed by a cursed mask and almost killed Kaeya.

[He sounds calm but he's probably not going to be calm forever.]

Week 7, Saturday

[Time to go find Sholmes! In the void since that's literally where they are right now lol.

But he'll hold up a fist for a fist-bump.]
